Extreme Primitive tavern owl make do

is extreme primitive owl tavern owl was designed by Dee Duncan Folk Art and handmade by me. He's 18" tall and made of coarsley woven vintage flour sack fabric I purchased at an auction. He's stuffed with polyester fiberfill and wired to a wooden candlestick style base (also handmade by me from recylcled and new wooden pieces). He has additional layers of fabric, hand stitched in place, at the top of his head behind each eye, and on his tummy. His wings are each 3 layers and "fluffed out" a bit. His beak is a rusty square cut nail and his eyes are rusty bells. He's be aged (and grunged) with a layer of paint/stain miture that was sanded and then several layers of cinnamon and sealer were applied on top of that.

The bottom of the make do base is signed "designed by Dee Duncan and made with love, Lucy Rox" It is also dated.

Primitive standing Amish Lady w chicken

Standing Amish lady with a chicken measures 18 1/2" tall. The doll is made of muslin. She has painted boots with laces, stitched fingers and of course NO FACE. She wears muslin pantaloons under a dress of dark green. She also wears a black apron and bonnet. The dress and apron are hemmed. The doll has wooden dowels inside her body that are glued into holes drilled in the 4" by 4 1/2" base (the bottom is covered with felt so it doesn't scratch surfaces).

There is a 3" x 5" handmade chicken attached to the base. The chicken also has support inside it's body. The piece measures 6" from front to back and 7" from side to side.

Primitive Black Folk Art Angel w crow wing

This terrific 27" tall crow angel is so very primitive. She's made of textured fabric and has a stitched on nose. She's painted, sanded and stained and all that texture shows. She has a stitched mouth and button eyes. There are muslin pantaloons under her cotton dress of faded sage green, extremely faded pinky red (like an old sun-bleached barn), beige, and white. The clothing is stained with my coffee/vanilla mixture. Her Halo is rusty wire and stars all twisted together. she has no hair.

Primitive Folk Art wool barn owl - 107

The wise old barn owl is 14" tall and 7" wide.I used 4 woolen fabrics recycled from skirts and blazers to create this wise old owl. His body and wings are dark brown wool tweed. He is stuffed with polyester fiberfill and attached to a chunky candle stick base with wire. (there is additional support glued into the candle well to help support the owl so he will always stand and not start to lean). The tummy is very dark brown and cream check wool tweed, hand sewn in place. The wings are 2 layers of the same wool as the body, also hand stitched in place. The face piece overlaps the tummy and is wool, rayon and silk tweed, lighter than the others, also hand stitched in place. The V shaped piece is actually diamond shaped and stitched to the front and back of his head.He has button eyes (from the jacket his face fabric came from) and a square cut, rusty nail nose that's spot tack glued with a resin glue and stitched to his face.

The wise little barn owl is 8" tall" tall and 3 1/2" wide.I used 4 woolen fabrics recycled from skirts and blazers to create this owl. His body is brown and beige tweed in a medium shade. The wings are dark brown and beige wool herringbone tweed. He is stuffed with polyester fiberfill and attached to a candle stick base with wire. The tummy and face are 2 shades of beige tweed wool, hand sewn in place. The face piece overlaps the tummy and though its the same fabric is a seperate piece, also hand stitched in place. The V shaped piece is actually diamond shaped and stitched to the front and back of his head and matches his wings.He has button eyes (from the jacket his face fabric came from) sewn over circles of a dark brown tweed. His beak is needle sculpted and painted.

Carrot Harvester

This carrot harvester is from my new series of rabbits that stand by themselves. You read that correctly; he doesn't need anything to lean against.He is 19" tall (more if you pull his ear up straight--did I mention they're wired?), 7 1/2" from front to back and 10" wide. His body is made of cotton flannel and stuffed with polyfil. His toes are stitched and his feet are shaped the way feet should be. Then he was stained with my coffee/vanilla mixture. He has hand embroidered nose and mouth, sewn on button eyes, and hemp twine whiskers that are securely anchored so they won't pull out. He has an adorable fuzzy tail stitched to his "butt". The rabbit is securely fastened to a piece of wood that began life as the top of a kitchen table but you won't find any glops of hot glue here...he's fastened in place with my secret (until I get my pattern made) method. He wears a necktie of faded dark red, mustard, and tan homespun plaid. There's a bag slung over his shoulder with his handmade fabric carrots, some sweet annie, and some narrow leafed eucalyptus. There's dark brown felt glued to the bottom so it won't scratch your surfaces.

I've signed the piece "designed and made with love Lucy" in an unobtrusive place where it's still easily visible.

Extreme Primitive Folkart Baby

Mo is a "bebe" (french). She is made of muslin and 19" tall finished. Mo sits 10 inches high. This one one cute doll. Made of muslin and stuffed with polyester fiberfill, I stained the doll THEN I painted and sanded her. Her mouth and the "whites" of her eyes are coffee stain4ed muslin, stitched in place with tan craft thread and then embroidered with black embroidery floss. Her nose is stitched with dark red floss. She has a red heart painted on the left side of her chest. Mo wears a coffee stained, triangle shaped diaper, pinned in front with a large rusty safety pin. Her hair is untwisted, rayon cord, tied in a knot and stitched to the center top of her head. It's tied with 2 strands of dark red embroidery floss. She holds her tattered "blankie" (a section cut from a vintage quit). The doll is signed on the inside top of her diaper, "designed and made with love, Lucy Rox" and dated.

She has dark red and white striped fabric legs and black fabric "shoes". She wears muslin pantaloons. Her dress is woven homespun plaid woven in navy blue and ecru with red, white and blue hearts woven into the navy blue and ecru squares. Her pinafore is muslin with a waistband of the dress homespun. Primitive Folk Art Annie w rooted hair

An original design by Lucy, this 13" tall raggedy is made of muslin. She sits 8" high.She has hand embroidered nose, mouth and eyes. Her hair is embroidery floss strands, individually sewn into her head, and each one is knotted so they won't pull out. Her leg stripes are hand painted.

She wears little panties made from vintage muslin flour sack (one of the soft ones like my Grandma used for a dish towel). Her dress is dark red, tan and navy blue homespun check. The little apron is navy blue, faded red, and tan homespun plaid. It is stitched into the waistline of the dress and accented with 2 7/8" dark blue buttons handstitched to the front.
