Gilbert measures 27" tall to the top of the crows in his hat. He's made of muslin and needle sculpted, stained, painted, and sanded. He has a wonderful 3-dimensional pumpkin gourd jack o'lantern head. His arms and legs are also orange and his body is rag stuffed so he sits nicely. primitive witch hat w crow 2 ways

This wonderful display piece is 20" long, 11 1/2" deep and 6" front to back. I designed it to hang on the wall but noticed it was just as great laying on a table as a centerpiece. The hat is made of muslin, stained with my coffee/vanilla mixture. I added a stained cheesecloth hatband. After drying, it was sanded and stained a bit more. It contains spanish moss, sweet annie, and a nice variety of dried and faux pods, florals and beareded wheat. There's a handmade crow perched on the front of the hat (top of the hat if it's laying down).

25" Minerva is made of muslin. Her nose is a separate piece of fabric, stuffed and hand sewn to her face. She's been painted, heavily stained and sanded and looks very worn. (she reminds me of my Grandpa's work shoes--so worn they wouldn't hold polish any more). She wears muslin pantaloons under her beige dress with tiny white flowers (also heavily coffee stained).She's wearing a wonderful dark green coat with black buttons and a matching green hat with hatband and black buckle. She's been out in the chilly damp weather collecting her weeds but Minerva believes in dressing well for all occasions.

17" Honor is made of muslin. she has needle sculpted nose, mouth, fingers and toes. She's been stained and painted and sanded. She has button eyes and raw wool hair from locally raised Wisconsin sheep. Honor wears muslin pantaloons under her dress of lightweight brushed cotton twill plaid in tan, mustard and ecru with bits of red and black. She holds a handmade kitty, also made of muslin with needle sculpted nose and mouth and stitched whiskers. It also has button eyes and a rusty bell held around it's neck with a wire.

Black primitive, folk art raggedy doll Belindy

16" tall Belindy is made of muslin. Her head, arms, and legs are stuffed with polyester fiberfill and her body is stuffed with ragg (trimmings from my sewing projects and clean, recycled, clothing discards) to help her sit well. I then stained her, painted her black, and after she was dry, I sanded her. I stitched the muslin eye backs and mouth to her face and then stitched the mouth line and eye dots on them with black embroidery floss. Her nose is hand embroidered with dark red embroidery floss. Her hair is black crochet cotton, stitched into her scalp. She wears muslin pantaloons under her dress of hunter green and ecru plaid homespun check (there's a matching bow stitched into her hair). 27 1/2" tall Jubal Lee is made of muslin. She's stuffed with polyester fiberfill except the bottom of her body which has "ragg" for weight. (Ragg is trimmings from my cutting table and clean recycled bits of fabrics I've used in different projets.) She was made, stained, dried, painted black, dried again and sanded to perfection. Then the white lips and the whites of her eyes (muslin fabric) were hand stitched in place and She has black buttons stitched on top to finish the eyes. She has hand embroidered nose, mouth line, and eyebrows and lower lashes. Her hair is black crochet cotton stitched into her head and knottted. She wears muslin pantaloons. Her dress consists of a bodice of tan printed with red flowers and black stems and leaves, skirt and sleeves of black fabric with red stems and leaves and tan flowers, and a homespun check half apron of red, tan and black. There's a bow stitched in her hair to match her sleeves.
