Child's Pouting Chair
Back in earlier times, these chairs did not start out that way. Early settlers would build shelves up high for storage and needed a way to get their goods down. The German immigrants built this chair as a step stool. The high back was designed so that they would not have to continually bend over to move the stool. These stools were placed in corners when not in use. When a child was naughty, they were sent to the corner as punishment. With the stool in the corner, they would sit on it giving it the name pouting chair. I have one of these pouting chairs available. It is painted in black over red in our early american finish. The chair measures 24" tall, 11.75" across and 9" deep. It has a nice hand waxed finish. There is only this one available.
